CluneTech Kilkenny Stars - 76
Abbey Seals Dublin Lions - 67
Our Stars got back to winning ways tonight with a hard fought win over Dublin Lions tonight in front of a packed hall in O'Loughlins.
It was the Dubs who started the stronger in the 1st quarter hitting 19 points and taking a 5 point lead. Tara Nevin was a thorn in the side of the home team hitting some big shots. For The Stars Ava Coogan and Aoibhin Dunphy combined for 9 points in the quarter to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The Stars edged the 2nd quarter with Caoimhe Timmons and Aimee O'Reilly roaring into the game for the home team. The crowd really got behind the team willing them on at every opportunity.
Half time saw the U12 boys put on an exhibition to keep the crowd entertained but the real entertainment was to come in the 2nd half.
While The Stars offence improved significantly it was their defensive intensity which turned this game in the home teams favour. Having conceded 40 points in the 1st half, The Stars limited the Dubs to 27 points in the 2nd half which was key to getting the Win.
Kalyah Watson was superb in the 2nd half on her home debut and wowed the crowd with some big plays at crunch time in the game.
In the 4th quarter the energy was there from the home team as the visitors began to tire. The energy may well have been transferred from the crowd to the players as the support was amazing from the home crowd.
This result puts the team in 5th place with 7 wins for the season ahead of a big weekend next weekend with home & away games against league leaders Cleveland Rockets.
